The Dogs

I switched to a new computer and forgot to keep posting photos. Anyway, over the past year we've picked up two yellow labs, Olive (a girl) and Hunter (the smaller one, a boy). We went with a green theme because they are a special subset of yellow labs called Dudleys that have brown noses and green eyes. They are lots of fun when they aren't creating mischief. Here they are at a dog park we take them to on a pretty regular basis. Hunter loves to play fetch and Olive loves to just run around like a fool and play with other dogs.

Old Tractor

In front of the old St. Johns County Jail there sits on display an old steam-powered tractor. I found it really cool because of the way the steering operated and all the gear reduction from the engine to the huge rear wheels. Basically a corkscrew twists a chain around to move the vehicle to either side by pulling the (mostly wood) front axle. I am sure the ride quality was awesome with the solid iron wheels and absolutely no padding or absorbers anywhere.

Peacocks

Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth exhibit / park is a lot quieter than many of the sights in St. Augustine, but it has some really nice shaded grounds to just walk around. They have about a dozen peacocks there that roam the area, the males often doing their dance for the ladies. What's coolest is when the males actually shake each of their feathers which makes a low buzzing sound.

St. Photios

Somewhat hidden within the streets of St. Augustine is a Greek Orthodox Church shrine called St. Photios. It's a nice, free place to visit on a hot day and has amazing painting all over the walls.

It's been quite a while since my last post. I've put aside casual photography lately and focused more on team sports (located at my main archive site with the correct login). I'm pretty rusty with normal shooting now!

Anyway, Jess and I just celebrated our first year anniversary and took a trip back to St. Augustine, FL. We also went to Universal in Orlando. Everything was tons of fun besides the random rain. I plan on posting a bunch of photos from our trip.

Chocolate Store

After many months of preparation, my mother opened her new Peterbrooke Chocolatier store today. She's been working on it since the summer and today is their first day being open for business. Jess and I drove over to check it out and the place seems to be doing very well for its first day. Quite exciting.

Thanksgiving

A week late, but I decided to post some Thanksgiving photos since the site's been quiet for a little while. Jess and I went up to Virginia to spend the extended weekend with her family. We had fried turkey and mostly all the other norms for a Thanksgiving meal. It was a very nice trip.

Sea Traffic

As a contrast, here's a few photos from when we rode the ferry around the islands and some of the other sights along the coast. There were so many buoys that it really was like a road on the ocean. The islands have a lot of shallow reefs (and a lot of shipwrecks) so there's a pretty set path for driving your boat. I also found it interesting that there were Shell gas stations along the coast that you could pull up to and refuel. Gas prices were also pretty high, near five dollars a gallon in some places.

City Traffic

It's always interesting to see other countries' signs and traffic habits. The people of Bermuda were generally pretty crazy on the road, flying around mountainous turns at pretty high speeds. Everyone drove on the left side of the road which sometimes added to the excitement when we thought some oncoming traffic might hit us as we rode buses around the islands. All our trips were completed safely although I'm pretty sure we were about an inch from a few rock walls and other cars at times.
